The Dress: First Lady in Jason Wu Again for Inaugural Ball

*In dramatic fashion and with an introduction from her doting husband, First Lady Michelle Obama debuted a red gown by designer Jason Wu Monday night as she joined President Obama onstage for their first inauguration dance at the Commander-in-Chief Ball.

The ruby-colored chiffon and velvet dress was custom-made by Wu, who also designed the First Lady’s dress for Obama’s first Inaugural Ball in 2009.

Mrs. Obama also wore a handmade diamond-embellished ring by jewelry designer Kimberly McDonald and Jimmy Choo shoes.

The dress will now go into the National Archives. The First Lady’s 2009 Inauguration dress was donated to the Smithsonian in 2010.

  1. I actually like this dress better than the white one she wore four years ago. It still would have been a little just if she had went with a black designer this time. JMO!

  2. I LOVE that red on her. She looked really nice…the red was so vibrant.

  3. roughcutdiamond says:

Another ugly Jason Wu dress that makes Michelle look bigger than she is.

  4. nightshift says:

Red is good on her but, with all the unimaginable access to fashion/designers . . . .she has the absolute WORST taste in clothes!! I just can’t stand it. And believe me, I’m holding back a lot!!

    • Yes Nightshift, I was telling someone else the same thing yesterday. She is not on Jackie O’s level when it comes to the White House fashionista. Even Nancy Reagan had a great style. I like Michelle but I think she wears the wrong dresses for her shape. While this dress looks pretty decent on her but I really shrugged at what she wore at that inaugurational luncheon.

  5. I thought she looked as beautiful as she did 4 years ago. The clothes don’t make the woman.
