Maybe it’s just a sign of the times, but I believe that if you are too insecure to sing the national anthem live, then step aside and let someone who is willing to keep it real get the job done. The national anthem has traditionally been performed live at these functions, and folks expect it to be less than perfect because the venue lacks the acoustics found in a studio. So that is taken into consideration when judging the performance. But nowadays, everybody seems to be satisfied with these simulated performances.

Oh? Now you want to talk classical? I’m definitely down for that. One of my most favorite performances was when he sang Nessum Dorma (sp) in the early 90′s. He did it again (at his handler’s and the production teams request) before his death but I believe that one was prerecorded and chose to do so because of the cold weather. I’m a huge Pava fan and no he didn’t lose his abilities with age…check Nessum Dorma the year before his death. Please don’t confuse “losing ability” (Whitney Houston) with old age because Gladys Knight (who likely can’t sing the Star Spangled Banner) sounds absolutely fantastic at her age. You can add Barbara Streisand to the list of “old singers” who sound absolutely fantastic at their age.
If you really want to discuss the topic you have to go beyond “the inauguration” and take it further to a discussion about outside live performances in cold weather.
