*The NYC deli that accused Forest Whitaker of shoplifting last week is blaming the incident on a “misguided” employee, and insists race was absolutely not a factor, reports TMZ.

The actor was publicly frisked at Milano Market after he was wrongly suspected of stealing an item.

A rep for the store told TMZ, “The management of Milano Market deeply regrets the wrongful actions of our employee in stopping and frisking Forest Whitaker.”

“While we can not delve into the employee’s mindset, we do not believe that he was racially motivated in his actions, simply misguided.”

The Market says it is taking steps to retrain employees so it doesn’t happen again.

The rep also says the store wants to reach out to Forest so it can make a donation to his favorite charity.

  1. MuthaFK an “apology”! SUE DAT ASS!!! That is the ONLY way mofo’s will take the offense they’ve made, as something to NEVVA do again. It’s the “state of mind against people of color” that MUST be addressed!! Until then?, “the joke of apology” will continue to be told.

  2. Apology??? Didn’t they originally deny that the incident even occurred? hmmmm…
I guess not all publicity is good publicity after all.

  3. Forest Whitaker seems like a down to earth kind of guy to be such a talented actor. So he prolly walked into that Deli looking like a normal everyday black man and we all know they scared of our black men and that worker automatically stereotyped him.

  4. Reyes Walker says:

Does this incident surprise me……NO! now the deli wants to donate to his favorite charity. How about donating 700 hours each employee to a disadvantage neighborhood and learning about the black and hispanic neighborhoods you probably don’t even visit.

Sue their ass then donate the money awarded to the charity.
