Emmett Till’s Family Disgusted and Disappointed with Lil Wayne

'The Ku Klux Klan would be very proud of Lil Wayne.'

emmett till & lil wayne*Lil Wayne must have been out of his mind, or someone in that studio is flat out ignorant.

After Future’s track “Karate Chop” featuring Wayne leaked the other day, only outrage poured out among the masses for his careless lyric degrading the legacy and legend of Emmett Till.

The family of the slain 14 year old responded to the controversy.

“It was a heinous murder,” Gordon-Taylor said in a phone interview with the Associated Press. “He was brutally beaten and tortured, and he was shot, wrapped in barbed wire and tossed in the Tallahatchie River. The images that we’re fortunate to have (of his open casket) that ‘Jet’ published, they demonstrate the ugliness of racism. So to compare a woman’s anatomy — the gateway of life — to the ugly face of death, it just destroyed me. And then I had to call the elders in my family and explain to them before they heard it from some another source.”

Gordon-Taylor, founding director of the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation, said Lil Wayne’s lyric was devastating to her family. Simeon Wright, Till’s cousin who shared a bed with his relative the night he was taken by the killers, heard the lyric for the first time Wednesday night.

“And he said the Ku Klux Klan would be very proud of Lil Wayne,” Gordon-Taylor said. “And as tough a man as he is, I could see the hurt and the anger in his eyes. It just demonstrates to our family just how lost are our youth.”

The song was leaked over the weekend and left Epic Records scrambling to make an apology, explaining that the track was an unauthorized remix and will not be in the official version.

  1. I am with the family 100% on this, Weezy is an IDIOT!!! and ugly on top of it, who thought using the brutal death of a 14 yr old child in a misogynistic rap lyric was a good idea anyway??? any subject for the almighty dollar I guess, Just sickening!!!!

  2. Melodycool says:

Like someone said yesterday “his ignorance is staggering”. Why would using Emmett Till’s horrific murder even come to mind in that manner. He’s a disgusting dog!

I agree, babycakes…anything for a dollar! Nothing is sacred with this lil mofo!

  3. In order to be dissapointed in someone, you first have to have an expectation of something better. I’m not dissapointed in this coon. This is what happens when people support ignorance and buffoonery. This is the depth to which our people have sunk. How else to explain why anyone would pay to listen to, let alone pay to actually look at this missing link? I don’t understand, What am I missing? And to the Till family, please don’t attach too much importance to this episode. It’s not as if as Leontyne Price or Mahalia Jackson disparaged your family name in a song. You are dealing with the dregs of society, the bottom of the barrel. It’s not worth wasting your emotions trying to figure out the motives of a degenerate who has no respect or reverence for history, besides he and the sheeple that support and follow this type of human waste won’t even care. Be strong.

    • Excellent post Kay!

    • Ray Jordan says:

      Excellent analysis Miss!

    • @kay: I agree for the most part with what you state. Everytime I hear “some” of the details of what happened to Emmett Till… it hurts my soul.

I say that to say… the depth of what his family feels is so much deeper! Therefore they likely feel 100 times more hurt. I guess like a wound that never really heals.

lil Wayne is ignorant! He will spew anything for a buck!

  4. More people should be “disgusted and disappointed” with rap crap in general. Lil Wayne has long spewed ignorant ish in his songs and he is not alone. I thoroughly enjoyed the Grammys this year with its lack of rap crap performances. Live singing and playing instruments. Non-offensive lyrics. No scantily clad women gyrating on my tv screen. What a concept.

  5. Excellent, excellent post Kay! Very well-stated.

  6. *Lil Wayne must have been out of his mind, or someone in that studio is flat out ignorant.
    All of the above.

  7. I agreed

  8. Melodycool says:

Kay, I agree. It’s boggles the mind that this POS is as wildly successful as he is. Hope this gives his fans/supporters pause to ponder their attraction to him. I’ve long despised him because his rhetoric and antics invites nothing but disrespect for Blacks and he clearly doesn’t give a damn…since it’s all about a dollar and ‘nothing’ else.

  9. I’m hoping something else comes out of this, that all of lil wanyne’s loyal fans who have never heard of Emmett Till research the information and see why so many are disgusted with his punk azz. They will see that this idiot rapper is just as cold and heartless just like those who brutally murdered that young man. Lil Wayne you owe Emmett’s family a huge apology.

  10. Everybody has already said what I feel. Epic Records is trying to do damage control. The record companies continually promote degradation and ignorance via the current rap genre for the past decade because they have not been called on it. Now they’ve been *caught* slumming, they are scrambling to re-edit this, that and a third. If the lyric wasn’t caught, Epic Records would’ve been too happy in promoting this guy’s garbage.

And what is Jesse talking about this guy’s ‘art’??? Referencing crude rough sex to a lynching is ‘art’??? I’m too through with this kind of foolishness. We use to have some pride and respect in ourselves and worked hard to promote those qualities to our youth. But for the past 20 years, some of us have slid down the toilet of mediocrity and ignorance, just like the rest of America.

    • @NYCsoul: It is always offensive lyrics that regarding something associated with the African-American community.

There is no way offensive lyrics about the hollocust would be allowed as a part of a song… or about the children that were killed in Sandy Hook… not now, not ever!

  11. This is simply the result of when an ignorant MF has no clue about his history. If his cough syrup addicted ass had any brain cells, he would have NEVER entertained saying such BS especially being born and raised in Louisiana. Regardless, this will be swept under the rug and dumb asses will continue to buy his lame ass rap music. I mean what should anyone expect from a moron that looks likes he’s been scribbled all over with a crayon by a 2 year old…

  12. How would this fool feel if someone rapped about his daughter? I have never been a fan this pompous – ignant (getting my slang on) overrated whining fool!

    • @timmdogg… in the past he was quoted as saying “his daughter is RICH.”

This pretty much was his answer to anything bad he does… that might have someone asking the question, “what about your daughter?”

  13. @ladyelle: Of course this type of crap like the lil waynes of the world are promoted towards us but some of us are guilty in supporting this mess in the first place. We can’t have it both ways. We want to be respected but in the same breath will promote degradation. We have to do better.

  14. C. Delores Tucker knew there would be a rise of the Lil Weasel types and was roundly disrespected by the record companies and the artists hungry for a buck when she took them on.

  15. ladyellle, I believe he said something dirty about Black women and a reporter questioned him about it. He said something along the lines of…”The difference between you and my daughter is she’ll be a rich Black woman”. Since many of them do not plan properly for their offsprings’ education/future she may well be a pauper by the time she reaches adulthood. They should focus on superior education as well so these kids with have something to work with period.

  16. the pos’s company is not sorry for the content, only that it was LEAKED.

  17. Lil Wayne is no different from a lot of young people who are so far remove from the civil rights.
