*Indie Wire is reporting that rapper Lil Mama, 23, has been cast as Left Eye in VH1′s in-development biopic of TLC, which the network announced in November.

The website reported:

Thanks to a tip from reader Cordell, in the red carpet video interview embedded below, MC Lyte reveals that, not only is she working with Lil’ Mama on an album, she adds (prefacing by saying that she’s not sure if she should be revealing this or not) that Lil’ Mama has been cast as TLC member, the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.

Screenwriter Kate Lanier (“What’s Love Got To Do With It,” “Set it Off,” “Beauty Shop”) penned the screenplay, which is currently untitled. Group members Chilli and T-Boz are executive producers and consultants on the project.

Lil’ Mama, born Niatia Kirkland, was last seen on TV as a judge on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew,” which was cancelled late last year.

  1. Godd for her. I think she is a talented young lady but not respected by her peers. I know she made a mistake jumping on stage in the middle of a performance she was not invited to join but she’s human. I saw the way a radio DJ brought her to tears, putting down her looks, to say the least. I think Lil Mama has more to offer and hope she’s given a fair chance to shine!

  2. I hope this role helps boost of career. Saw her perform at a Black Girl’s Rock event in 2011 and admired her spunk.
