Scroll down to see/read the original On ion tweet before it was deleted.

quvenzhane wallis*What the hell is the Onion‘s problem? Well, whatever it is, they’ve go some ‘splainin to do.

A lot of folks, including civil rights activists Najee Ali (Project Islamic Hope) and Rev. KW Tulloss (NAN), are rightfully upset with the Onion.com, a so-called satire site for calling 9-year-old actress Quvenzhané Wallis the C-word.

Everyone else seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhané Wallis is kind of a cunt, right? #Oscars2013” — The Onion (@TheOnion) February 25, 2013.

The tweet was sent out around 8:42pm PST Sunday evening and quickly made the rounds on the social media website. And wouldn’t you know it, an  hour later, the offending message was deleted from The Onion’s feed.

As it should be, the outcry has been immediate for the totally inappropriate and cheap dig.

Actor Wendell Pierce (“Treme” and “The Wire”) called out The Onion via Twitter: “Identify the writer. Let him defend that abhorrent verbal attack of a child. You call it humor I call it horrendous.”

Meanwhile civil rights activists are calling For an immediate public apology from Will Tracy editor of the Onion for allowing the tweet from their twitter account.

“It’s shameless for Will Tracy to allow these types of vile tweets about children on the Onion’s site. Our coalition of African-Americans leaders are calling for Tracy to publicly apologize for those vile comments or there will be a boycott of their sponsors,” stated Najee Ali director of Project Islamic Hope.

  1. poor littlw girl, this is supposed to be a fun night for her, but now she’ll have to look back at this night with sadness. now she has do the interviews and have to address and explain how it made her feel, instead of being a child and enjoying her great achievement.

  2. Who calls a child a cunt.. ever? And who would actually mean it? It’s absurd and unexpected, that’s why it’s funny.
Plus the fact that there is people that will get so amazingly butthurt about it definitely adds to it.

By overreacting, you guys somehow make it both more amusing, and more of an issue.

    • i get what your saying, but the problem is: 1). it wasn’t funny, it was a comedic fail. If you are going to go that far, you better be funny. 2). It’s a little girl. Call her a brat or a jerk, say that she is annoying or a pest, but you do not call her a cunt. It’s easy to say everyone is butthurt, until someone is calling your daughter a cunt.

think about that poor little girl. tomorrow and for however long this stays in the press, she is going to b having cameras and microphones in her face, reporters calling her and bugging her, trying to be the first ones to talk to her. It was supposed to be special night, but now it’s definitely going to be bittersweet. and the worst part of it all, she did nothing to deserve it, because she is a child, a nine year old, her mom will probably have to explain to her what a “cunt” is and why the joke is so offensive.

      • Humour is subjective, I laughed at it.
It wouldn’t be funny if it was ‘brat’ or ‘jerk’, in fact it could be seen as more offensive as it’s more likely that someone would actually mean it. ‘Cunt’ is just so over the top it, only morons think that it’s being used seriously. It’s so effectively blunt and it’s one of the few words that still somehow shocks people, this is part of why it’s funny. .

The only way this girl is gonna have a bad time over this is if people like you continue to make such a big deal of it. She won’t have heard about it otherwise.

Besides, you celebrity worshipers love this kind of drama..

        • It is insulting ,jealous ,very low class;in fact ,everybody is saying how adorable the young lady is ;why is this specific person projecting her perspective of herself to the rest of the world ;she is not an actress and noone is interested.

        • Relax your an idiot for thinking that stupidity was funny. There was nothing funny about calling a child a cunt, EVER. It’s not funny when said seriously or playfully. You should take it seriously and get a clue. It’s not people that made a big deal about that’s the problem it’s people like you that laugh and support such horrible behavior. These kids have enough issues to deal with and should not be subject to cyber bullying by the media for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Is it fair that kids and her school will make fun of her over this stupidity? Is that funny too your simple minded self? People don’t think of the big picture when they do stupid stuff and then the idiots jump on the bandwagon think no harm done. She did nothing to deserve this but will be teased because an adult acted like the child in this situation.

        • uhuruhouston says:

Whomever the punk bitch was that called this child a cunt must call their little kids cunts, in any case their children if they have any, should be taken away but they better niot ever reveal themselves

  3. So sad, some people should really think before they speak. Very crude, shows lack of character…..who says that about a child….

  4. cadefoster1 says:

This is totally unacceptable. What the hell is wrong with those people?

  5. There is nothing ‘humorous’ about calling a child a ‘cunt’. Of course, if its directed to a AA child, it’s all jokes??? Gimme me a f’in break. This has nothing to do ‘celebrity’; the child is a human being and does not deserve to be debased. Anyone who tries to justify attacking a 9 year old must be a damn pedophile. Now that’s ‘funny’…

  6. Shortly we will see a statement “out account was hacked”.

  7. Melodycool says:

Co-sign with everyone having the sense to understand the depth of that nasty insult towards a child (and a wonderful one at that) in particular. Those filthy bastards!!!!!!

  8. Cosign Melody!!! some people are so darn mean and cruel with their stupidity this is a child for heaven’s sake!!!

  9. Another thing what is up with dissing/disrespecting our budding young balck female superstars in entertainment, first Gabby Douglas on her hair and everything else and now Quvenzhane, Leave these young ladies the hell alone and let them do their thing. IDIOTS!!!!

  10. Melodycool says:

babycakes, those mofos feel threatened when they really have ‘nothing’ on brilliant Black females so they dive lower than low. This young actress is a shinning star and may she have a long illustrious career. I love the girl!

  11. This is so typical of the Academy Awards especially when it comes to people of color. I can’t help but think of how at one time, blacks could not sit in the same auditorium as whites and Hollywood tends to overlook films that truly deserve to win i.e. Lady Sings the Blues, The Color Purple. In all the interviews I’ve seen of the little girl, she comes across as polite, cute, funny and a typical 9 year. The Academy Awards sucks monkey balls, big time. I never watch them…

  12. Melody, so true. But check this out:

Kelly Osbourne has also been catching flack because she refuse to say Quvenzhane’s name, calling her ‘Lil Q’ instead. This heffer is being paid to host on an entertainment show and she couldn’t take the time BEFORE getting her hefty arse on tv, to practice how to say the child’s name??? I’m sure she can say schwartznagger (sp?) but can’t say this child’s name?? Some people’s children!! I don’t blame the child for correcting people on how to say her name. WTH?

  13. I love her also, she starred in a movie when she was only 6 then and now at age 9 she was nominated for an Oscar, her first role ever!! that is quite an accomplishment, we will Definitely be seeing more of this talented young lady.

  14. Did anyone see the movie she was nominated for? I really want to see it. It had tidbits of it but I had never heard of it…

  15. From my understanding an apology has already been issued and the tweet deleted. I say too little too late. I co-sign with everyone except Relax.

  16. “Quvenzhané Wallis, Best Actress nom, age 9, hit the Independent Spirit Awards gift lounge right in front of Kyle Maclachlan. She glommed onto freebees like Perfect Pearl’s base, powder, shampoo, body lotion and hair straightener. Also Mattel’s “Pass the Popcorn” game. This kid will go far. If not as Meryl Streep, then think Paris Hilton.”

Ol’ azz Cindy Adams wrote this in her piece about Quevenzhane. White folks are pissed about this lovely, talented and adorable little girl. Look at the back-handed slap b*tch azz delivered.

  17. The editor of the Onion, Will Tracy, was my son’s roommate when he lived in Brooklyn. I am ashamed that this boy lived with an African American and still came away with no respect or understanding of cultural sensitivity. I would guess the Onion hires no people of color, especially African Americans who can school them on what is sensible. It is probably a white boy frat mentality that exists there. Maybe from their perch in Chicago, they believe they have no constraints on what is acceptable to say about children. This is simply disgusting and I am personally offended by having known the editor who must be somewhat responsible if not the responsible person for their misogynistic sick tweet.

  18. I thought Cindy Adams had retired years ago, she still trying to gossip about celebs, she needs to sit her old azz down somewhere.

  19. So disgusting!!! This is a child and should have never been compared to a c*nt. Why? Why? Why? Why? I don’t want to hear any excuses about their account being hacked.

  20. This is a child. There is no way that word should EVER be used to describe her, even in this absurdly poor taste, poor excuse for a joke. There’s nothing funny about it
