*What is going on with Mary J Blige? Her money troubles just keep following her around like a bad habit.
The singer’s financial troubles are worse than a little repossession here or a tax lien there. She’s about to be homeless in a minute.
According to the New York Daily News, she’s not been paying her rent in the upper West Side apartment since last November and she might get kicked out.
“It was for not paying back rent,” said a real estate source who has leased apartments at the building. A three-bedroom apartment at the Extell Development site, similar to the one Blige was renting, rents for $9,000 to $12,000 monthly, depending on the view and amenities.
The NY Daily News says the 42-year-old singer was there for a little more than a year before the note was plastered on the front door of the pad.
Why her money is funny is a curious question. Blige’s net worth at one point was a reported $45 million, but she’s been hit with a few copyright infringement lawsuits lately that could cost her somewhere around $1 million yearly.
Last year, New Jersey filed a $901,769 lien against her. She was also sued for failure to repay a $2.2 million personal loan.
It’s all bad for Mary.

Maryfan, you lost me with the insertion of Obama. Have NO idea what Obama has to do with anything lol, but I admire your passion. Like you, I am a FIERCE Mary J fan, and her money woes honestly baffle me. I am inclined to think the source of her problems is with her hubby-manager, but I don’t have proof. That’s the part that confuses me…all that money and you can’t pay cash for one spot just in case you fall off the radar? What bonehead manager would advise her NOT to pay cash out right for a place. She has been in the business for over 20 plus years and she is facing homelessness? This is some weird stuff. I can recall when you never heard anything concerning Mary’s financial woes – but as soon as she married the record producer (not sure here) them dollars started dwindling and her name appeared in the tabloids for questionable charity work – not paying investors and a whole slew of financial dilemmas! Just like the title to one of her songs – “Come share my World”!
So sad to hear about Mary J’s financial woes. She should know better to keep her finances in line b/c she has been in the game for a long time. Mary needs to check herself and also check out that husband of hers b/c he is a shady character whom I think is enabling all types of problems for her.

Yes, Melba Moore always comes to my mind when I think about Kendu! He was married with small children when Mary started dibbling and dabbling with him and then she fronts like he was some savior in her life. Everyone could see the hook and crook. He got her good because she is vulnerable and always looking for someone to love her. He used religion on her and the rest is history.

i’m truly baffled and stunned that mary is or could be having money problems. she’s been consistently releasing successful albums which sh’e written/produced songs on since she came out in the 90′s and touring nonstop. she’s an investor in carol’s daughter if memory serves me correctly,has her fragrance,publishing,acting in a few things and so on. how could this be?

I’m not versed on all things “Mary J” but I could have sworn I heard her state that at one point or hinted at, that Puffy was a little shady with her money when he was managing her. I think it had something to do with her royalties and that she did not make alot of money off the first two LPs she made. Don’t quote me but I never thought that Mary had ‘money’ like that. I don’t know if her hubby is the culprit but it also could be that she could have had a string of bad investments. Who knows the truth except Mary herself?
