*Kanye West called into New York’s Hot 97 for a rare discussion after landing at No. 7 on MTV’s Hottest MCs in the Game list.
No. 1 will be revealed on Thursday (March 7) at 10 p.m. on “MTV Jams.” So far, the list includes Meek Mill, Future and A$AP Rocky at Nos. 10 through 8 respectively, West’s artist Big Sean at No. 6 and Drake ranked No. 5.
“I’m happy for [Big] Sean,” he told DJ Enuff on “The Angie Martinez Show.” “But I feel like he should be on top 5. He’s bodying records, like the way he started off that ‘Mercy.’”
But he was less than pleased with his own No. 7 ranking, criticizing the list creators’ biases.
“What happens with them… I had like the pink polo and the backpack and I’m checkin’ all the boxes of that Tribe Called Quest era and J. Dilla and all that, so they wanna champion it. They don’t like Givenchy Kanye. They don’t like Kanye in a kilt. They don’t like Kanye in a relationship,” he said.
Not that he was expecting the top spot: In West’s opinion, the world’s No. 1 rapper is Lil Wayne.
“Yeah, I just think… him and [Jay-Z] and [Eminem] and certain people are just the greatest rappers of all time,” he said.
He finished with a call for the network’s Sway to remember his roots.
“I was living in Newark doing beats for Jay and Beans and all them and I was getting a new TV and I gave Sway his first TV,” West said. “And really I didn’t wanna even call to talk about the No. 7 list, I just wanna tell everybody that I gave Sway his first TV. And he need to remember that.”
No ya’ big crybaby. Run DMC, LL, Doug E. Fresh and certain people of that era of rap are the greatest rappers of all time. And what being #7 on this stupid list means Mr. Whiney Pants, is that the only person who thinks you are good enough to be at the top is you. I’ll bet Sway is kicking his own ass for taking that tv from you. Bet he would gladly give it back if you would just fade away and take Kartrashian The Human Mattress and with you.
Kay, you’re out of your lane again. RUN DMC is top rap group of all time. That is without a doubt true. Doug E. Fresh, not so much. Don’t get me wrong. He is a legend and a pioneer for sure, he is not a top 10 rapper of all time and that is a fact.
I don’t think I mentioned “top 10″ of anything. Doug E. is one of the greatest rappers of that particular era. THAT is what I said. As a matter of fact, I saw him perform recently and he’s still as good now as he was then. I’m not a rap statistician like youself, so I don’t know anything about the revered “top 10″ list, but on one point we do agree. Doug E. is a legend and pioneer.
MTV is corny. Who actually takes this list seriously? Well, obviously Kanye. But eminem and jay-z are, in Kanye’s opinion, the greatest rappers of all time?? Yeah, okay. This whole story is a farce just like Kanye.

Kay, my apologies, I meant to say Doug E. Fresh isn’t even a top 10 rapper of all time. No doubt about it he is good performer/entertainer. I was a little kid coming up when he was popular, but no doubt about I will give credit where credit is due. He’s earned it. I wasn’t coming at you by the way. My apologies if you took offense.

@TA: I got that he also mentioned certain people but I zeroed in on Eminem/Jay z. Honestly, I haven’t listened to everything they both have done(can’t take all that b/ho/n**ga stuff and Eminem’s voice just turns me off) but I don’t agree with his statement. But again, that’s his opinion, which he is entitled to. The same with me.
