Michael Baisden Locked Out of Studio and Officially Off the Air!

michael baisden*It is official. By his own account, Michael Baisden has been kicked off the air and locked out of the studio.

According to the radio host’s Facebook page, he and his staff were locked out of Cumulus Studios apparently because the show and the studio didn’t come up with a contractual agreement.

He stated “just because we couldn’t come to an agreement is no reason to drive the listeners, our affiliates, and our advertisers of only 9 days to say goodbye and show our appreciation.”

So for now, only pre-recorded shows will be aired until further notice.

At this point, the details are scant, but given the abrupt nature of the change, it’s possible Michael had some serious tension with Cumulus for a little while.

If you’re wondering what Cumulus Media and ABC Radio have to say about the situation, as of this posting, they haven’t commented. However,Kevin Ross’ Radio Facts reported that that Cumulus was upset that Baisden announced his departure before final negotiations. The site did not name a source or the reasons for ending of the show.

Julyn would have marked the 10 year anniversary of the Michael Baisden show.

Meanwhile, Baisden has yet to announce his next move.

  1. wont miss him, to loud and kind of corny. More music please!

  2. See …to me?, we have too MUCH “audio distraction” (I wouuuuld call it “music”?, but most of the shyt out hurr nowadays?….it ain’t!) and we NEED some”thing”/someONE to “talk & SAY sum shyt, relevant shyt, that the “machine/system is fighting so fkn harrrrrd to keep Us from! I remember when dude’s show was out here in Cally?, it was “‘on”!!! Mofos were “awakened” (not that he was a “god” or We were “stupid”, but it was a hella welcomed change from the same ole BS & repetitive progfamming!) He had damn near ERRYbawdy’s ear regarding the Gena 6 AND primary election issues! His show was number fkn “1″!!!!, ‘on a Black owner’s network!!! And aaaaaall of a sudden?, he AND the station was…”g’on”!!, SOLD & replaced with a GD “old school “rock” platform. (like ANYone needs more of “that” shyt!) Now….I ask….WTF would Miss Hughes “sell” a station, in a major city, with “thriiiiiiiving” ratings!!!??? (Not just “his show”!) I think she was “forced to do so”, but thaaaat’s just meh!) but regarding “this” incident?, I suspect….if/when a “Black” man is worth more?, he is not respected, & DISrespected by an offer NO one with his background, track record/success would EVER except. And they do this shyt?, so he (whoever!) “WILL” leave/walk out, b/c “that’s” WTF the agenda was/is all the long…..”shut him down”/KEEP him down. Now…..a “Bernard Shaw” etc…. he was not, (& by that token B. Shaw wasn’t “him”!)(sidebar question?, umm..WTF do We do that shyt ..”compare & eliminate Our own!!!?? SMFH!/ but aaaanyway!) but nor did he “have to be”!!!! He was/IS an excellent radio personality, who did more for our civil rights, than the NAACP has done for Us in “20 + fkn yeeeeeears”!!!! So in short?, “I” don’t think We can “afford to lose” his kind of….”annoyance”. Umm….IMO. Outty!

    • I wasn’t about to comment at ALL, but once i read your comment, I just HAD TO! I am from Cali also, and i remember those days.. I made it my mission to tune in every single day at 12 noon.. even at work, I could not bear to miss out on the most entertaining and informative show, I had ever heard. I learned so many things from his show. Suddenly the time slot changed..next I turned to the station one day and it was gone.. I was sure it was a mistake with the radio towers. I still didnt get it till i realized the next day was the same issue. I finally had to look it up and was disappointed to learn that 93.5(I believe that was the station) had been sold.

So yes, I had to respond because I agree with everything u spoke on.. I am quite sure he will be back somewhere.. I really hope he comes back out here so I can listen again locally. I miss those memories.

  3. This is a golden opportunity for “Radio One.” Michael Baisen is tailor made for their stations.

  4. Cade Foster says:

I am sorry to hear about this. I thought he was a much needed voice and platform in our community. Hopefully he will be back on radio somewhere.

  5. SweetPea says:

Don’t worry, he’ll be back. A station is going to grab him up and Cumulus will be sorry. It’s their loss. You can’t keep a good thing down.

  6. InDaKNOW says:

He has a one year non-compete. He will be forgotten by then. He’d be better off to sign the deal and go on with life. They offered him less, but he has lost some BIG affiliates.

    • Non compete nationally not locally. Baisden was on Kiss FM in New York for 2 years before the show was syndicated nationally. So all he needs to do is come back to NY or LA briefly OR go to satellite radio, SiriusXM or Pandora or Internet based radio station/podcast. This aint the olden days anymore. He still has TV opportunities also.

  7. @blackpepper112…Hey lady, I see you! :-) )! And…”okaaaaaay”!??/remember dat!?? I bet you didn’t eeeeeven “miss the music”, huh!? He also exposed and MAGnified something to “me” without even trying to do so….”the Gena 6 issues happened SEVERAL months b4 “We” all heard/got involved in it?, & Al Sharpton comes on & ONLY b/c MB brought the shyt, b/c he admitted?….quote..”when I 1st heard of ghis tragedy monghs ago….yada yada yada!! I was like….WTF do yiu meeeeeeean “hou’ve known of ghis shyt all hhat time, & ain’t said/DID shyt!!???”This” is why “I” say We don’t haaaaave any leaders, “We” have…..gatekeepers! Shyt is KRA!!! But aaaaanyway, I guess we’ll have to do like MJB and…..”reminisce”! Wah wah wah waaaah! Good lookin ‘on the co-sign! ><!!

    • ladyellle says:

@Taurusingr: I recall listening to both Al’s and MB’s show. I recall the synergy as a result of both men joining in the efforts. It then became National.

Mr. Sharpton is getting old. It took a great deal of work and OUTRAGE to make change. We have become too complacent!

I recall the caller on Al’s show / MB’s show discussing Gena 6. I am fuzzy on the details now.

This is EXACTLY why I am disappointed in Roland Martin being dropped by CNN. We are losing momentum.

Instead of people recognizing the bigger picture… there were people that wrote…
I don’t like his voice, I don’t like his ascot, he isn’t all of that? WTF????

We need voices that reach out to different markets! We need to inform, educate, organize, and cause OUTRAGE! We need the voices of Mr. Sharpton, Mr. Baisden, Mr. Martin.

OUR VOICES ARE BEING SILENCED!!!! Where is the OUTRAGE?

  8. Sorry…..”when I 1st heard of This tragedy “months” ago…..”what do “yOu” meeeeeeean, you’ve “known” all “This” time etc….!

  9. It’s a wrap for me, I rode with WW and now MB because, I like talk radio but, now that’s gone. What about the nin-cum-poops in the morning? I used to listen to Tom Joyner but I can barely understand a word his crew is saying. And to think I just bought some fresh batteries for my speakers at work. Good luck Mike and George.

  10. Melodycool says:

I won’t miss Baisden one bit. Maybe he should now call on his non-Black sisters and brothers since he was so fond of shouting out to them every chance he got. He’s a typical Black woman hater and I have no love for this man and could care less where he goes.

  11. Although the national synicated shows have been helpful in bring national spotlight to certain issues, overall, I think they have done more harm than good. Local radio is slowing dying. While these shows may bring attention to something that happening in another part of the country, you might miss issues happening in your own backyard. It was a mistake to allow large coporations to buy up all the radio stations. Why hire a 100 local personalities when you can broadcast one person. For the most part I’ve had to switch to am radio.

  12. @ Melody, well dang, tell us how you really feel?/ LOL!!! I listened to Mchael’s show on the drive home from work, I especially liked his side kick George, Michael I could take or leave. lol!!

    • LOL babycakes Melodycool don’t mess around, she will let a brotha know…… her comments always makes me laugh lol……I don’t listen to the radio very much, like you babycakes I can take Michael or leave him. I totally agree with DOne’s comment.

  13. Melodycool says:

babycakes and Platinum, I used to like MB and one year I bought multiple copies of one his books and passed them out as gifts. We were buzzing about MB. He turned out to be a major disappointment in my eyes, particularly since he targets Black women while uplifting all ‘others’ which is typical of them. Now let his non-Black sisters/brothers swarm to his side and see how far he gets. Mofos will have to learn we won’t be brow beaten into desperation for them and it ain’t working.

  14. It’s a disgrace that this is happening I enjoy Michael so much.

  15. @ladyellle…See what I’m sayin!?? Sweating the small IGnant & STUpid ish! Being more concerned with the superficial, instead of the….pertinent! SMH! And yeah!!!, it was around Aug/Sept somewhere WELL after the shyt happened?, that MB found out about it, but AS already KNEW of it!!, & up until “that” point AS had said?….not a GD thang! “Gatekeeper”. There are a plethora of issues that have BEEN existing, that had they been addressed?, our POTUS wouldn’t have or conTINue to have to deal with, as well as…ourselves! But instead, this “mob mentality” from YT has been ALLOWED by these so called “leaders”, so HTH is it supposed to….go away!? Yes…AS has become “older”?, but he nor any of the “others” are too old to…”speak up”. These people ONLY say something?, when someone ELSE beats them to it, reflecting “their” lack of purpose! And the sad fact eeah?, they are “in the pocket” of the very ones they shouuuuld be fighting against!! Just think…if they had “appropriately” addressed the R. King incident?, there would BE no…Sean Bell, Oscar Grant, Devon Jackson, Sherese Iverson, Travin Martin, Jordon Davis etc….!!! So yeah…”we” agree that what matters most is “what” is being said, as oppose to…”the style” of the speech. Now in the words of the Ojays?…..”Let Us Praaaaaaay”! SSMH! One moe gin, lady….><!! :-) ))!

    • ladyellle says:

@Taurusingr: During the Jena 6… there was another problem that AS was fighting. The young man (Genarlow Wilson) in Douglasville, GA. He was given 10+ years for having sex with a 15 year old when he was 17. It was at a hotel after the prom.

DA charged him with rape & child molestation. A white high school teacher 17 was charged with rape of a 16 year old… on the same day in court was given 90 days.

AS was fighting for this young man during this same time period. Genalow refused to plea and sign an agreement to be considered a pedophile. The DA refused to budge even though they passed a law the next year to consider this act… as that of a teen.

He was involved in BOTH fights around the same time in addition to doing his radio show.

We need the voice of RADIO… it reaches the multitudes!

  16. Ladyellle, it didn’t bother me early on; but now its Steve Harvey or Tom Yoyner in the mornings, it’s MB in the afternoon, Keith Sweat in the evenings. It’s all about cutting costs while locals are getting laidoff. I travel a lot; I used to enjoy listening to local radio in whatever city I was in; now all the adult R&B stations are exactly the same, exact same format and music. Additionally, black radio is where a lot of black community got much of their news. We didn’t own TV stations, but we always managed to own a radio station or two. But now much of that local appeal has gone and the level of local news is disappearing with it. Even much of the good work done by the syndicated shows is overstated. For example, both Steve Harvey and Michael B. has mentoring programs. However, what black communities in large cisites don’t have local mentoring programs? Do we really need steve harvey going to Detroit talking about mentoring when there are several local programs already in place? Of course, they also blow into town with their corporate sponsors. Everything these guys do are backed by large sponsors. How can I take someone talking about community empowerment serisouly when you got a big Wal-Mart banner behind your head as you speak.

  17. Sorry….”Trayvon” Martin!!!

  18. I really don’t care for Michael Baisden so I’m in the grey shaded area with this dude. I’ll give him credit for Trayvon, Jena 6 and Voting Awareness with the recent presidential campaign but I rather hear local Jocks like back in the day. Those people are more connected to people locally. These syndicated shows are killing real radio. Just my opinion.

  19. @lasyellle….Ps, like…you ever see one of those “Lords Of Rings” ish joints? The “king” that “use to” ride with his army?, gets old & stops riding, after years of battle. But the/his “fight” continues b/c?…”HE HAS AN ARMY”!!! Feeeeeeel meh! (said like Pac!) Wink!

  20. Sorry…..”laDyellle”! (iPhone thumbs!)

  21. @ladyellle….Yeah, I remember that! But see?, when MB brought the Gena 6 issue up?, Al “suddenly found the tiiiiiiiiiiime” to be involved in that case as well! And remember NO OTHER “leaders” were making Us aware of Gena 6, either!! It was only/ALL……MB. So again, unfortunately?, it is what it is & what it is?, is….a flock without a sheperd, & un-attending sheperds allowing the coyotes to kill the herd. Now…”that” sho NUFF is the “country life” We live! SSMDH!

  22. I always enjoy listening to the Michael Baisden show, it’s so informative and real. It will be a disappointment to me and many of his viewers, if he does not come back on the air at some later time.
