First Look: Regina King directs an episode of her TNT series “Southland”

*“Southland’ star Regina King stepped behind the camera to direct the TNT drama’s March 13 episode, reports TV Guide.

“Let’s just say I didn’t get much sleep,” said the actress, who plays Det. Lydia Adams.

The episode reconnects Detective Adams with a man she sent to death row, while Sammy (Shawn Hatosy) grapples with being a tabloid sensation and Dewey (C. Thomas Howell) gets into some serious danger.

“Everyone was really supportive,” King says of her costars. “Both Shawn Hatosy and Michael Cudlitz stayed after they wrapped and watched me shoot scenes they weren’t in. That really meant a lot to me.”

This was her first time helming an episode of “Southland,” but it wasn’t her first time in the director’s chair. She also shot the movie “Let the Church Say Amen,” due to premiere on BET later this year.

  2. KaoticThought says:

Mann I LOVE this woman… Regina King has always been that cool, fione but plain Jane “wifey” type chick, that handles her business. I really hope this leads to bigger things for her from a directing perspective. Props!

  3. This show sucks.there is not one character of color portrayed positively, well there is just two King and her partner. Her partner is the closest one.

The Black and Hispanic criminals are not only criminals, but portrayed as real stupid. Why is she praised for being on this show, let alone directing it.Oh yeah and the police are out of control on this show as in real life and racist as hell, again like in real life.

The Closer at least had positive role models of all hues, even though when Brenda was on it she was such a liar, lol.

    • @nylaconnect… I disagree. It’s the best police drama on television. Regina King is great as Det. Adams and I love the other cast. I look forward to it every week and can’t wait to see the March 13th episode.
