Jurnee Smollett-Bell*Jurnee Smollett-Bell is back in action.

The actress has been on a hiatus (it seems) for a little while, but now she’s back and making moves, not only with the new Tyler Perry film, “Temptation,” but also as the host of the 2013 Silver Rose Gala and Auction for the Los Angeles-based Jenesse Center, a national non-profit domestic violence intervention and prevention organization.

She recently completed an official U.S. mission for the U.S. State Department in which she was sent to Botswana, Swaziland and South Africa to conduct workshops with women and youth about activism, empowerment and HIV/AIDS. She also recently joined the board of the Children’s Defense Fund at the invitation of longtime mentor, Marian Wright Edelman.

Avis Frazier-Thomas, Jenesse Board President said, “We are honored to welcome Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Emcee of the 2013 Silver Rose Gala & Auction. She is a young woman who has embraced Jenesse’s cause and is a great example to our youth on the importance of education and community advocacy.  It is exhilarating to watch the important work that she does for the world community.  She is a role model for many young people here in America and around the globe and we are thrilled to have her join us to spread Jenesse’s message of hope.”

The 2013 Silver Rose Gala and Auction is this Saturday, April 6,  6pm at the historic Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles.
