Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins recounted meeting Burke, then a music executive, through her coworker Rico Wade in her 1999 book, “Thoughts.”
It was Ian who first conceived the group. However, viewers won’t get a great sense of Burke’s contributions when watching the made-for-TV movie.
During an interview for Sister 2 Sister magazine, Ian weighed in being slighted by the writers of the TLC screenplay.
Stephanie Dayton: Ian, did VH1 or the screenwriter consult with you at all?
Ian: No! At all. Being in the music business and being a film buff, I get it. There are certain things you’re gonna have to skate over and gloss over and make things a little more intense to hid other things because you want the entertainment value. I get it.
Stephanie: How would you describe what your impact has been on TLC?
Ian: As far as I’m concerned, I created it. That will always be my baby.
