*While pumping gas in Burbank, Will and Monifa Sims were discover by the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and went on to become Internet sensations (12 million hits and counting).
However, there are still doubters who just don’t believe it was pure “luck” that got the very talented duo (Monifa is an aerobics instructor … Will is a bartender) – who just happen to have professional level singing and performing (and acting) abilities – in the right place at the right time.
That’s because, it just so happens that Monifa appeared on this very same segment of “The Tonight Show,” at the very same gas station, and even the very same pump (#16), three years ago.
Can you say, “Hmmm?”
Well anyway, Mr. and Mrs. Sims sat with Matt Lauer on the “Today” show this morning to set the record straight.
Monifa insisted she was caught by surprise when Lauer asked if they were tipped off that the segment was being taped at the gas station.
“How would I know? That’s just the gas station I go to, to get gas every Wednesday after I train my clients. That’s what I do,” Monifa responded.
And Will confirmed the authenticity of the performance.
“One hundred percent. That’s just us.” Will said.
Lauer also had a surprise for the talented and engaging couple. In the “Tonight Show” skit Will sang Bon Jovi’s “living On A Prayer” and they received some positive feedback from Mr. John Bon Jovi himself. Via a video message from South Africa, he thanked the couple and basically invited them come and sing back up with him.
Looks like Will and Monifa may have started their professional singing career.
