*O.J. Simpson appeared in Las Vegas court on Wednesday to give testimony in a five-day evidentiary hearing over his former defense attorney Yale Galanter. [Scroll down to watch.]
Simpson claims that Galanter failed to defend him in his 2008 trial over an armed heist of Simpson-themed sports memorabilia from a Las Vegas hotel room, and that Galanter actually recommended he undertake the mission in the first place. During the trial, Simpson says, Galanter was more concerned about protecting his own interests than defending his client.
In his testimony, Simpson mentions one piece of memorabilia of particular importance to him: a photo of himself with former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.
Simpson told the court that the photo — taken “before the tutus,” he said, referring to reports that Hoover sometimes wore women’s clothing — was prized by himself and his family.
Simpson said that the presence of the photo among a trove of collectibles proved that they were in fact personal effects stolen from him.
Simpson is serving nine to 33 years in a Nevada prison for the Las Vegas heist.
