The “Star Trek Into Darkness” wears nothing but a gold bracelet in the latest issue of Allure magazine, in which she openly discusses dating Hollywood bachelors (like Bradley Cooper), her sexuality, and continually chasing her dreams.
After over a decade of dating entrepreneur Keith Britton, and an on-and-off relationship with Cooper, Saldana is not looking to get involved with another famous face. “Been there, done that, got the T-shirt,” she says in the June 2013 issue, which hits newsstands on May 21.
If anything, her love life has taught her to know what she wants. “If I have something good in front of me — it doesn’t matter if it’s a person or a pair of shoes — I’m not going to test something else,” Saldana explains. “It’s insecure, and it’s immature.”
But after a few failed romances, men may be a thing of the past for Saldana, who characterizes herself as “androgynous.” Just what does that mean for her sexuality? Well, Saldana says she may “end up with a woman raising my children…that’s how androgynous I am! I was raised that open.”
When asked if she ever been romantically involved with a woman, Saldana simply says: “Promise me one thing: You’re going to ask this question [in the article] — if you choose to, just put three dots as my response. That’s it.”
While she may be staying lips-sealed on that matter, Saldana is sure to speak her mind when it comes to her career. “It’s OK to say, ‘This is what I want,’ and go after it,” Saldana says. “And if it doesn’t happen, it’s OK. Be a reasonable person with yourself.”
“In the last few years of my life, I’m actually claiming what I want and not being afraid that I’m jinxing it, that it might not happen, that I might be disappointed if it doesn’t happen,” she continues. “It’s OK to say, ‘This is what I want’—and go after it. And if it doesn’t happen, it’s OK. Be a reasonable person with yourself.”
Saldana reprises her role as Uhura in “Star Trek Into Darkness,” in theaters Friday (May 17).
