*Promoter Bob Arum kicked off the press tour for this exciting bout at the fabulous Beverly Hills Hotel this week with pomp and circumstance for what could very well be a real showdown between these two guys.
This one is set for October 12 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas and folks I have to tell you something, this could end up being one of the greatest fights you’ve ever seen.
For one, although Bradley is coming off a rough win against Ruslan Provodnikov and is still undefeated in 30 fights, he’s determined to make this upcoming bout the one that will make his critics finally shut up by winning against Marquez.
There are those that think that he actually lost against Pacquiao (this writer thought he won, although it was close) and some just don’t want to give him his just due.
He’s fought some of the best guys in the Jr. welterweight and welterweight divisions.
Guys like Kendall Holt, Devon Alexander, Lamont Peterson, Junior Witter, Nate Campbell, and Carlos Abregu are just a few who couldn’t get through the “Desert Storm.”
And now we have a real top tier opponent he’s about to face in Marquez who’s coming off a knockout win in the sixth against Pacquiao last December, and has a very impressive ring record of 56 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw, with 40 coming by way of knockout.
This guy is no joke folks, and he’s been in there with “The Pacman” four times. And each time he went in there he gave him a real run for his money.
What’s interesting to note is the fact that Marquez has been fighting a very long time, and could prove to be dangerous as evident to the 40 knockouts attributed to his ring record. He’s a well seasoned veteran and Bradley is not going to take him lightly.
Both these guys have shown that they can go in there and rumble to the last round, so this is going to be a real barn burner and as I always say, we’ll see what happens as this bout will be telecast live on HBO pay per view on October 12.
In other boxing news, there’s a big one set to go tonight at the Barclays Bank Arena in Brooklyn, New York with Adrian “The Problem” Broner going against Paulie Malignaggi in a bout that will be telecast live on Showtime Championship Boxing.
This one’s being brought to you by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and it should create some big fireworks as these two guys have been talking a lot of trash at each other throughout the months and days leading up to this.
Broner is stepping up two weight classes to fight Malignaggi for this one and is known to destroy whoever comes on front of him with that knockout ability that he possesses. Malignaggi on the other hand, has a style that is very quick and elusive, and if he can stay out of the way of Broner’s power punch, he might have a chance to pull it off. We’ll see what happens.
I hear that former world champion James Page also known as the “Button Down Bandit” has been charged with committing six bank robberies in Oakland, Calif., and is set to go before a federal judge on June 27. This is really a sad case because this guy once had a promising career in the sport, but got caught up on drugs and his life became ruined.
And finally, I hear that former IBF featherweight champion, Billy Dib who lost his title in March to Evengy Gradovich is set to get back in the ring on July 5 against former IBO champ Mike Oliver at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, Ct.
This one is being brought to you by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s SMS Promotions and will be telecast live on ESPN2.
That’s all for now, we’ll talk later.
