eric j. chambers*(Hollywood, CA) Eric J. Chambers, the longtime host of the Jazzspel radio and TV shows has been selected to receive the “Celebrity of Faith Award” and a coveted honorary doctorate degree from Next Dimension University in Ontario, CA.

The ceremony is slated for Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 3PM at the Double Tree by Hilton, 222 N. Vineyard Avenue, Ontario, CA.

Dr. Rose Parker Sterling, an administrator at the Christian university, notified Chambers of his selection with an e-mail and phone call. “I am totally blown away by this,” said Chambers. “This is proof that all those years of toiling in the Lord’s vineyard has not been in vain. You just never know who’s watching, beginning with the Lord,”  he said from his home in North Orange County, California.

His Jazzspel radio show celebrated a milestone on July 10, marking the 19th anniversary of the jazz and gospel music ministry he launched on Smooth Jazz 98.1 KIFM in San Diego, California in 1994.  He served eighteen years at the station. On January 19, 2013, Chambers relaunched The Jazzspel in online syndication and expanded the program from one hour to two. It now airs on stations in San Diego, Hollywood, Cleveland, Spartanburg, South Carolina, Charlotte, North Carolina, Killeen, Texas and Barbados.

Chambers’ wildly popular Jazzspel TV show aired internationally for nine years on The Word Network. He did 137 episodes without getting paid. “As I look back over those years, carrying equipment, traveling the nation at my own expense and covering events while I dealt with my own personal issues, God was taking copious notes. This is the best reward I can imagine,” Chambers said with emotion. “While I’ve sacrificed a lot, including my family, yet staying the course, there’s one thing I do know: The Father is faithful and He’s crazy about Him some Eric J! This is the manifestation of His love for me and this ministry I have handled with extreme care.”

Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, Arsenio Hall, Tyler Perry, Mark Wahlberg, Harrison Ford, Morgan Freeman, Frankie Beverly, Toni Braxton, Gladys Knight, the late Rick James and Teena Marie are among the guests who have appeared on his shows.

Since leaving The Word Network, he launched, The CUT: The Chambers Urban TV Network, a Hollywood-based syndicated entertainment and news outlet, covering urban stories. “I am so excited about what we’re doing at The CUT. With the people’s support, this has the potential to be huge!” he offers enthusiastically. “Rather than asking the local TV news assignment desk if I can cover certain urban stories, I have eliminated that. I am the assignment desk!”

A four-time Emmy and five-time Golden Mike Award winner for his work with CBS-TV in Hollywood, Chambers is no stranger to accolades. But he says this honor trumps all he’s won–combined. “To know that people are going to call me Dr. Eric J and it’s for real, is mind-boggling to me. I was so excited, I called my mom in Pearl River, Louisiana and told her ‘our struggle is being vindicated.’ The prayers are working. The Lord has heard our cry,” he said with great pride. “I’m happy my mother is still around to hear this news. My heart has been made glad. I am humbled.”

During the course of his TV and radio ministry, Chambers has been questioned by family and friends about why he persists, and would he consider moving back home to Louisiana? His answer has always been no, because his mission is incomplete. And because of that, he is living the harvest of his dreams.

Chambers is author of “The Love I Have For You: Breaking The Baby-Daddy Cycle with Fatherly Love.” It’s a self-published book about the love he has for Aerica Noelle, his 11-year-old daughter. Pastor Rick Warren, the best-selling author of all times with his mega book, “The Purpose Driven Life,” endorsed Chambers’ book. The two of them appear in a photo on the back cover.

In addition, later this year Chambers will appear on the Inspired By audio bible, “The Bible Experience.” Directed by Chip Hurd, the updated project is a modern-day interpretation of the bible, read by a host of Hollywood personalities including Denzel Washington, Samuel L.Jackson, and gospel greats Bishop TD Jakes and Kirk Franklin.
