*Two weeks ago, Tameka “Tiny” Harris announced on her website that her father, Charles Pope, had passed away.

Sister 2 Sister reached out to Tiny’s mother, Dianne Pope, to talk about the “gentleman” she loved dearly.

“He was a sweet, gentle man…gentleman. He wore a suit every day of his life. Every day,” Dianne shared. “Anybody could have came in this house and he was sitting there watching TV; he would have a suit on.”

Charles, one of the founders of the ATL group The Tams, passed away at their home in Atlanta at the age of 76. He gave up singing with the group in 2009 when he started to develop Alzheimer’s.

“He wasn’t forgetting the words to his songs. He was just forgetting to hold the mic up to his mouth but he was still singing!” Dianne told S2S.

The family started “For The Love of Our Fathers,” a foundation in his honor. They are currently raising money for it with plans to hold a benefit fundraiser soon.

Dianne’s hope is that people will learn to be giving and that caregivers practice patient when caring for those with Alzheimer’s, like her husband.

“Anybody who has anybody that has Alzheimer’s, you need to be patient with them because they don’t know. They don’t know what they’re doing,” Dianne said.
