Lawson, the Denver Nuggets starting point guard, got into a heated argument with his girlfriend, Pettiford, that was so loud someone called the police. The arresting officer was Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson, who reported, “They were yelling at each other and broke each other’s phones. I don’t believe it was physical otherwise.” Despite what Robinson told reporters, both were charged with criminal mischief and physical harassment.
After the charges were filed, a retraining order was issued which is mandatory in many cases involving a domestic dispute.
Lawson was released on a $1,000 bond and immediately took to Twitter to try to clear his name.
Denver sportscaster Vic Lombardi tweeted, “Ty Lawson does not fit the profile. At all. Something fishy here.” Lawson responded to that tweet with, “20 day old fish.”
The Denver Nuggets released this official statement about the matter: “We are fully aware of an incident involving Ty Lawson over the weekend. Per team policy and out of respect for the legal process, we will have no further comment at this time.”
Teammate Wilson Chandler came out in support of Ty lawson, but not in the best way. Chandler tweeted a not so funny joke: “Young Ty trying to get that street cred up lol.”
After catching some heat for his failed attempt at a joke, Chandler then tweeted: “All jokes, that story is suspect. He’s not even on that type of time.”
