Harris’ father was a 53-year-old Louisiana pastor Ronald Harris Sr. who’s favorite Bible passage was “I can do all things through Christ.” She describes him as a man who spent his time with family and picking up his grandchildren from school.
As we reported, Pastor Harris was gunned down in Lake Charles at his church – while he was preaching – by former member of the Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center, Woodrow Karey. He apparently left the church about four years ago without giving a reason. No one in Ronald Harris Sr.’s family knows of a possible motive because Karey never showed any animosity, according to Harris.
“One question I do want to ask him is why,” the 31-year-old said. “My dad had a big heart. He’d help anybody.”
According to reports, Karey has no criminal record or history of mental troubles. He phoned in to surrender himself just minutes after the shooting Friday night. Kim Myers, spokeswoman for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, says Karey also instructed deputies on where to find a shotgun and a .22-calibur pistol he stashed in the woods.
He was booked on a second-degree murder charge and remained jailed Sunday, his bond set at $1 million.
