Top seeded Williams was able to break eighth-seeded Jankovic to registered her 73rd win of the season after winning twice in first set and three times in the second.
The only time in the match Williams fell behind was she was in pain serving an ace during the third game. Surprisingly after that it was Jankovic who needed medical attention during the game for her hip problem.
Williams was able to rack up five games for a game winning close out.
“I’m really excited. I didn’t think I’d win this tournament starting out, so I’m really happy to be here holding the trophy,” Williams, who complained of a sore back after Saturday’s semi-final, said during the presentation ceremony.
Sunday’s victory also gave the 32-year-old Williams her 56th career title.
