Mary J Blige delivers an early stocking stuffer – her first Christmas album!
A Mary Christmas is the songstress’ 11th studio album.
“I had a lot of fun making all the songs. The challenge for me was the French song.” The R&B queen talked to EURweb associate Fahnia Thomas about her soulful interpretation of classic holiday tunes.
“I had a coach with me and he just made sure my ‘euhs’ were right. I had everything else down. The French believe our oohs are ‘euhs.'” MJB flawlessly tackles French with “Petit Papa Nöel.” “I nailed the enunciation and I nailed the song.”
“I’ve always wanted to do this. My favorite song is ‘The Christmas Song.’ ”
A Mary Christmas has 12 songs featuring pairings with Jessie J (“Do You Hear What I Hear?”), Marc Anthony (“Silent Night”), and The Clark Sisters (“The First Noel”).
The festive LP includes “When You Wish Upon A Star” a jazzy duet with Barbra Streisand and Chris Botti. Marking the first time Streisand has ever allowed a duet, to be released on another artist’s project first.
In her Christmas past, the queen of hip-hop soul, dipped her angelic vocals in holiday music duet with Andrea Bocelli (“What Child Is This?”), Rod Stewart (“We Three Kings”), and Angie Martinez (“Christmas in the City”).
Blige can also be heard singing in “Black Nativity, ” the contemporary adaptation of Langston Hughes’ celebrated play. The singer/actress plays an angel named Platinum Fro in the holiday musical. The Kasi Lemmons film opens in theaters November 27.
