*On Saturday, October 26th, California Assemblymember Isadore Hall III (64th District) hosted a brunch and presented Man of the Year awards to 12 exceptional men in his district.
The criteria for the nominees was that each man, over the past year, made a significant contribution to his community with notable accomplishment and has not previously been recognized for his contribution. The event took place in Wilmington at the Los Angeles Harbor College (LAHC).
The names of the honorees representing an array of varying occupations including the County Sheriff’s department, were George Cannon, “Chief” Charles Coleman, Carson Councilman Mike Gipson, Bennie Harris Jr., Randy Hughes, Dennis Johnson, Ramon “Ray” Madrigal, Rafer Owens, Michael Simpson, “Thomas” C.L. Thomas, Michael Wainwright, and Jose M. Zendejas (all shown in no particular order in the accompanying photo [except Owens] with Assemblymember Hall). Also on hand to recognize the honorees was Compton Councilmember Janna Zurita.
Randy Hughes, president and founder of Friends and Neighbors Community Club (FNCC) said, “I really wasn’t expecting this…it’s a great feeling knowing that your community service is recognized and appreciated.”
