russell simmons - mpac*Media mogul Russell Simmons was honored by the Muslim Public Affairs Council/MPAC the other night at an event that was held at the Ronald Tutor Auditorium on the USC campus in Los Angeles.

He has long supported and promoted Muslim artists (such as Dave Chappelle, and Mose Def) and has worked diligently for years to bridge the gap between religions of all faiths, and at times has been very vocal about his position.

In addition to that, he endorses and supports the Muslim Jewish Conference that is held annually.

He is the head of Rush Communications which is the parent company of Def Jam, Phat Farm, and the televised HBO Def Comedy Jam.

His philanthropic work is well known around the world as he has given to many causes.

Last Saturday, six artists and more than 400 people joined the Muslim Public Affairs Council’s Hollywood Bureau in honoring philanthropist and hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons with a “Voice of Courage and Conscience” award

But his effort to bridge the gap between religions of all faiths, is his most important endeavor and he rightly deserves to be saluted.

Salam Marayati is the president of the Muslim Public Affairs Council and was on hand as Mr. Simmons quoted to the audience that “If you have a voice, you should stand up and use it because God is watching, and I like to remind people of that.”

He went on to say that “Rappers are just poets expressing what’s on their heart and what they see. And we act like what we don’t see.”

This was indeed a beautiful event and a much deserved honor for Russell Simmons.

And we encourage him to continue his endeavor to bridge the gap between all people of all races, and faiths.
