*Known on the silver screen for “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Mistresses,” actor Jason George has switched it up and taken his game to a whole new level.
In “12 Angry Men,” currently playing at the Pasadena Playhouse, he gives an impeccable performance. Angela Bassett, Dawnn Lewis and Keith David was there for support. Mr. David was almost speechless describing his performance, stating that, “I have so much respect for him; he always brings it to the table. He is one of my favorite actors.”
Grey Anatomy’s cast mate James Pickens was also there. EURweb associate, LaCora Stephens, spoke with him about the play which Trayvon Martin was the impetus. Mr. Pickens said though written in the 1950’s the play was timely.
“Hopefully things like Trayvon Martin [case] and Miami Dolphins [bullying] will draw attention to racism and cause us not to think that everything is ok, because it’s not,” Pickens added.
Cast members Ellis Williams and Jacques Smith, who each gave a dynamic performance, seemed to echo the same thought.
Wren Brown, founder and producer of Ebony Repertory Theatre was a guest of honor that night. BeBe Winans performed for the occasion. He urges everyone, “Do not walk, but run to the Pasadena Playhouse to get your ticket. It is exquisite.”
Shocked by the Trayvon Martin verdict, director Sheldon Epps felt that the theatre had to do something and that’s how 12 Angry Men came about. He explained:
“It’s a jury trial but it deals very much with the justice system now –how people enter a jury room with prejudice, preconceptions, assumptions and how they have to be changed in order for justice to be served.”
