*Nia Long says it wasn’t too difficult getting back into the character of Jordan Armstrong in “The Best Man Holiday” – some 15 years after she first played her in the original. However…

“What was difficult was determining what her journey has been like for the last 15 years,” Long told us during recent interviews for the Malcolm Lee-directed sequel.

In the 1999 original, Jordan was the former lover of Harper Stewart (Taye Diggs), who is married to Robin (Sanaa Lathan).  In “The Best Man Holiday,” Jordan has moved on to Brian, her white co-worker and boyfriend of 8 months, played by Eddie Cibrian.

In picking up the character 15 years later, Long said it was also important that she “maintain certain things about Jordan” in this new film, “and also really be clear about what her emotional journey is. For me, that was pretty much the motivation and most important thing.”

Also important to Nia is that women of color in this franchise are in abundance, including four African American females: Long, Lathan, Regina Hall and Monica Calhoun. (Melissa De Sousa is Afro-Latino of Panamanian descent).

Below, Nia credits her director for the rare occurrence.

“The Best Man Holiday” opens nationwide on Nov. 15.
