UPDATE: The victim was a TSA agent; 7 others were injured in the incident at LAX that shut down one terminal and delayed flights.
A gunman armed with a high-powered rifle opened fire at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday morning, killing a TSA agent and wounding several others, authorities said.
Authorities said the gunman fired at several locations in Terminal 3 before police shot him. LAX police did not reveal his condition.
[Updated at 1 p.m.: The LA Times earlier reported that the suspect was dead. But sources have since told the paper that he is in critical condition.]
The motive was unclear. A federal law enforcement official said that the gunman was a ticketed passenger entering the airport.

*Latest reports from the scene say 3 people have been shot Los Angeles International Airport Terminal 3. The victims’ conditions are unknown at this time.
Authorities say the incident at a checkpoint at Terminal 3 began at 9:30 a.m. At least one of the shooting victims is believed to be a TSA employee.
Initial reports are that there is a suspect in custody. It is unclear if there is a search for a second suspect.
Terminal 3 has been evacuated. LAPD’s West Bureau and South Bureau are in tactical alert due to the shooting.
Century Boulevard has been shut down. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Terminal 3 is the last terminal on the north side of the airport. Airlines that operate out of the terminal include Allegiant Air, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit and Virgin America.
