*Kevin Hart says he was humbled to star next to Hollywood royalty Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro in “Grudge Match.”
“I’m up here as a student of the game with a bunch of stars right now,” he said during a recent press conference for the film, which also stars Academy Award winner Alan Arkin and Kim Bassinger. “From Sly to Bobby to Alan to Kim, I was in great company. I was a kid in a candy store.”
The actor no doubt got a sugar high while starring as money-thirsty promoter Dante Slate, Jr. who attempts to get aging rival boxers – Billy “The Kid” McDonnen (De Niro) and Henry “Razor” Sharp (Stallone) – back into the ring to settle a thirty year old grudge.
Of course, there are obstacles. The retired fighters come face to face with the reality of their aging bodies, while Dante has to deal with them being old, period. In real life, however, Stallone and DeNiro’s longevity in Hollywood is something Kevin appreciated during filming.
“I got to work with people who have been doing this for a long time and who all have successful careers,” he said. “For me, it was just about sitting back watching how they work and appreciating how they approach their craft.”
That’s all fine and good, but later in the press conference, Hart admitted the real reason this role appealed to him.
“Grudge Match” opens on Christmas Day. Watch a trailer below.
