terry pheto*While much attention has been given to Idris Elba and Naomie Harris leading up to the Nov. 28 release of “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” their co-star Terry Pheto has largely slipped under the radar.

The 32-year-old South African actress plays Nelson Mandela’s first wife Evelyn Mase in the film, but she is best known for her breakout role of Miriam in the 2005 Oscar-winning feature “Tsotsi.” In 2001, she made her debut in the States on CBS soap “The Bold and the Beautiful,” where she had the recurring role of heart surgeon, Dr. Malaika Maponya.

At the recent Toronto International Film Festival, Pheto, one of the few members of the cast who has actually met Mandela, give props to Elba for capturing his spirit so beautifully in the movie.

“Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” is currently in limited release in Los Angeles and New York.
