Toni Braxton*If you’re grateful for Toni Braxton reemerging on the music scene, you can thank Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Anita Baker, Missy Elliott and Fantasia for it.

Braxton opened up about her return during an interview with Hello Beautiful. According to songstress, it was earlier this year that she announced the end of her 20-year career in music as she revealed that she had fallen out of love with music and was officially done recording.

”It was a sad moment,” Braxton confessed to the site. “I was really going to retire, I was ready to do it.” The singer’s fight with lupus coupled with the constant grind of recording and promoting her music had taken its toll on her, thereby making it difficult to enjoy the benefits her work had brought her.

Although the thrill of making music had faded, Braxton found herself not ready to officially call it quits during the year.

“Music is my life force, it’s how I breathe,” said the vocalist. “I think I forgot to enjoy it. Sometimes God gives you gifts and you forget that they’re gifts and you take them for granted; I definitely think I did that in the past.”

The seeds were beginning to grow again for Braxton’s comeback, but it wasn’t until Edmonds, Baker, Elliott and Fantasia reinforced her importance that Braxton’s mind was fully into making music again.

“Friends of mine came to my rescue and told me it’s not time,” she said. “Kenny [Babyface]…he helped me alot, Anita Baker, Missy Elliott, Fantasia, so many people said ‘you can’t, it’s not time.’”

Apparently, the intervention paid off. Braxton is currently enjoying the success of her latest single “Hurt You,” which hit #1 on the Adult R&B Songs and Urban Adult Contemporary charts. The track is the first single from Braxton’s joint album with Babyface, “Love, Marriage & Divorce.”

Toni Braxton and Babyface’s “Love, Marriage & Divorce” is slated for release in February. To promote the album, the pair will appear in a special that will air at 10 pm ET/9 pm CT Feb. 8 on TV One.
