Tonight the pistol-packing grandma, Mabel “Madea” Simmons is back and starring in her first holiday themed film, “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas.”
Madea (Tyler Perry) dispenses her unique form of holiday spirit on a rural town when she’s gets coaxed into helping her niece (Anna Maria Horsford) pay her daughter (Tika Sumpter) a surprise visit in the country for Christmas.
“Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas” puts Christ back into Christmas.
“Christmas has become a big industrial thing. It needs to be more about having fun, about family, and about giving love – not necessarily in the form of gifts,” says Perry.
The prolific writer-director is taking his movies overseas.
“I am going to tour the world and work every market,” Perry says. “We need to go out and prove and show that these movies can work internationally.”
Cast members also include, Larry the Cable Guy, Chad Michael Murray, Kathy Najimy, Eric Lively, and appearances by internet sensations Sweet Brown and Antoine Dodson.
The soundtrack for the film is available in stores.
Perry has been a long time advocate for the support of local businesses. For example, the 6 ft tall nutcrackers and large gift boxes came from Eclectia.net on Howell Mill Road, in Georgia.
“Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas” is the seventh in the Madea franchise and the seventeenth film by Perry.
