*The “First Lady of the United States” (FLOTUS) Michelle Obama reached a milestone birthday when she turned 50 on Friday, January 15, 2014 and her husband threw a swellegant soiree for her at The White House.

According to the exclusive invitation the evening called for “Snacks & Sips & Dancing & Dessert” and encouraged invitees to wear comfortable shoes, practice their dance moves and eat before the party, scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.

Some 500 guests attended the private birthday bash Saturday evening January 16 at The White House East Room where the entire state floor – including the gilded east room, the formal parlors and the state dining room – was transformed into a dance floor.

A beaming First Lady, resplendent in a red flowing top and black pants, greeted her guests looking a lot younger than her age — with an enviable body to prove it!  Now the younger than springtime birthday celebrant is a very proud AARP card carrying member.

The buffet table offered a menu featuring mini-roast beef sliders, mini-crab cakes, fried oysters on toast rounds, plentiful desserts and an open bar that served soft drinks and premium libations – liquor, champagne, beer and wine.

POTUS (President of the United States Barack Obama) gave a touching tribute to his wife.  “It was really beautiful and really touching,” stated Herbie Hancock.  “It was just beautiful, a husband speaking about his wife.”

Entertainment was provided by John Legend who performed several versions of the “Happy Birthday” song.  But it was The First Lady’s gal pal Beyonce who brought the house down  performing many of her biggest hits including “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)“ and “Irreplaceable,” during an awesome 30-minute mini-concert as first daughters Malia and Sasha watched in amazement along with Mrs. Obama’s mother Marian Robinson.

Then it was party time and time for the girls to retire. After making sure the girls were tucked in, FLOTUS rejoined her guests.  She had put her hair up and changed into flats as she was ready to pah-tee!  Now it was DJ Cassidy‘s time to do his thing and he did not disappoint and had everyone dancing to his pulsating beats.  At one point he was joined by Stevie Wonder who got behind a keyboard and played an impromptu medley of songs that included “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” and “Do I Do.”

POTUS & FLOTUS hit the dance floor and danced seamlessly like you do on the dance floor of any club.  At one point they were encircled by guests.  They were joined in the circle by Beyonce and some of the dancers for a Soul Train-type dance-off.  The dancers were showing guests all of the latest dance steps.  Why even POTUS was giving “dougie” lessons.  Oh what a night!  Oh what a fabulous fun time!

FLOTUS was excited to receive her new AARP card membership into the senior advocacy group and throughout the week joked about the milestone — at one point holding up her brand new AARP card.   “I am excited to join Barack in the 50+ club today,” she exclaimed.  She is now a proud cardholder of the group’s 37 million members and the $16 she paid to enroll in the group buys her a year-long subscription to their magazine as well as discounts on cruises, Denny’s meals and Kindle readers.  “Not only is Mrs. Obama helping to change and reshape the way people look at aging in this country, but she’s also showing folks how great 50 looks today,” stated  AARP CEO A. Barry Rand.

VIP guests included political luminaries Bill & Hillary Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett, National Security Adviser Susan Rice, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker and Democratic National Committee official Donna Brazile.

Other high-profile guests included Chicago-area friends Kaye & Wellington Wilson, Marty Nesbitt, Eric Whitaker, Laura Ricketts and Paula & Jim Crown.  Also Sir Paul McCartney, Cookie & Magic Johnson, Jennifer Hudson, Janelle Monae, Ashley Judd, Billie Jean King, Ahmad Rashad, Al Roker & Deborah Roberts, Alonzo Mourning,  Angela Bassett, Courtney Vance, Emmett Smith, Gayle King, Gladys Knight, Grant Hill,  Rachele Ray, James Taylor, Kal Penn, Michelle Kwan, Ledisi, Mary J. Blige, Michael Jordan, LaTanya Richardson Jackson & Samuel L. Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Star Jones, Steve & Marjorie Harvey, and Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg.

This article does not contain a photo from the event as guests were encouraged not to bring cell phones with them, and there was a cell phone check-in area for those who did.  So you’ll just have to take my source’s word for it that FLOTUS, as usual, looked gorgeous and that POTUS looked like he had just stepped off of the cover of GQ magazine.

*Macy’s Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, President & Director Terry Lundgren welcomed renowned designer B Michael and his very special friend, Tony and Emmy award-winning stage and screen actress Cicely Tyson, to its flagship store at Herald Square during the holiday season where the designer presented his latest b michael AMERICA RED collection and to celebrate the new b michael AMERICA RED designer shop-in-shop at Macy’s.

Although invitations went out to the designer’s prominent clientele, once Michael arrived with Tyson, the word spread like a wild fire throughout the store and shoppers made a mad dash to the designer’s beautiful new luxurious space on the fifth floor where they joined invited guests, overwhelming sales staff and security.

This was a lovely event that allowed shoppers to mix and mingle with the celebrated designer and the legendary Tyson who recently won a Tony for her role in “The Trip to Bountiful,” her first Broadway role in thirty years.  As guests enjoyed light refreshments in the new shop they were treated to a freestyle fashion show featuring models walking around sporting the designer’s newest threads.  Shoppers really liked that touchy, feely aspect of this up close and personal show.  And since it was the season for giving, customers who made a b michael AMERICA RED purchase during the event received a special gift compliments of the designer and Macy’s.

b michael AMERICA RED features dresses, some with sleek jacket options that seamlessly transition from daytime to evening.  These easy-to-wear pieces offer a contemporary spin on the designer’s signature aesthetic with clean lines, retro-inspired feminine silhouettes, dramatic sleeves and striking necklines providing a modern and versatile twist.

Neutral tones and solids figure prominently in the color palette, with bold prints making an appearance in key pieces.  As you know, President Obama has been big on keeping and bringing back manufacturing jobs to America.  To that end, shoppers are thrilled to know that the b michael AMERICA RED collection is 100% Made in America — manufactured in the heart of New York City’s garment center!
