*“Mad Men” became a Twitter trending topic within minutes of President Obama name dropping the AMC series during Tuesday’s State of the Union address.
POTUS was making a point about gender income inequality when he said, “It’s time to do away with workplace policies that belong in a ‘Mad Men’ episode.”
Although Obama was comparing today’s outdated practice of paying women 77 cents for every dollar a man earns to the show’s depiction of women being demeaned and disrespected in the workplace during the early 60s, “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner said he is “honored” that the president mentioned his show at all.
“I support the president, and I’m honored that our show is part of a much-needed national conversation,” Weiner said in a statement to E! News.
