black men in jail - prison*(Via iDateDaily) – I recently watched actors Jennifer Hudson and Terrance Howard play the roles of Winnie and Nelson Mandela in Winnie Mandela.

The film personifies the beauty of partnership in a romantic relationship. While most of their interactions in the film were heartwarming, there is one particularly awkward interaction between the two that left me puzzled.

***SPOILER ALERT*** In the film, Nelson, who was serving a life sentence in prison, questioned his wife about allegations of an affair with her bodyguard.

This happened after she’d led a number of demonstrations in his absence, spent 500 days in prison — 400 of those in solitary confinement, and was resilient in her efforts to visit him during his incarceration — no matter how many threats and setbacks she encountered.

Nelson’s concern with rumors concerning the extent of his wife’s relationship with a man who literally saved her life bothered me.

***END OF SPOILER ALERT*** Considering all of the things she’d been through to continue his legacy and fight for his release, I felt it audacious and insensitive of Nelson to expect his wife to withhold her physical need for intimacy as he served a life sentence.
