The producer of “Ride Along” and “About Last Night” – both currently in the box office Top Ten, has set up his next film with Universal Pictures via his Will Packer Productions banner.

The comedy, titled “Girls Trip,” will be directed by “Best Man Holiday” helmer Malcolm D. Lee and is set to begin production this summer, reports Deadline.com. Details of the storyline are being kept under wraps.

Lee’s “Best Man Holiday” has grossed over $71.6 million worldwide, while Packer’s “Ride Along” opened to a record $48.6M over the four-day Martin Luther King holiday weekend this year. It has grossed $123.1 million to date, earning the filmmaker the nickname, Will “Power” Packer.

Packer’s “About Last Night, also a Kevin Hart vehicle, has grossed $38 million in two weeks.

Sony has scheduled “The Wedding Ringer,” which Packer is producing with Adam Fields, for the MLK holiday in 2015. The Jeremy Garelick-written and-directed comedy stars Kevin Hart again. Likewise, the bankable Packer-produced “Think Like a Man,” also featuring Hart, grossed $96 million worldwide.

As previously reported, Packer and his “Ride Along” director Tim Story are also planning a sequel to their hit comedy. Ice Cube and Hart are closing to reprise their roles as the quick-witted security guard (Hart) who has his eye on his partner’s (Cube’s) sister.
