*Can lasting relationships ever begin with sex on the first night?
That is the premise of the upcoming Valentine’s Day release “About Last Night,” starring Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant as a couple who try to stretch their one night stand into something more.
“It’s weird. The chances are greater that it’s not going to last, or it’s not going to work out, than they are that it will,” says Bryant, whose character Debbie Sullivan has given up on love when she meets Ealy’s Danny Martin at a bar. “She kind of figured, why bother if it’s not going to work out.”
Not helping the situation are their personal haters – Danny’s friend Bernie (Kevin Hart) and Debbie’s homegirl Joan (Regina Hall) who are dating each other, but discourage their friends’ attempt at a relationship, claiming hookups never work out.
But sure enough, Debbie and Danny catch feelings in this remake of the 1986, Rob Lowe/Demi Moore film.
Bryant, meanwhile, is entering her sixth year of matrimony to Dave Pope after meeting him on the job. He was a stuntman on the set of her 2007 film “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins.”
Below, the actress and regular on NBC’s “Parenthood” says solid relationships are hard to build no matter how far the couple goes on the first night.
“About Last Night” opens nationwide on Feb. 14. Watch the trailer below.
