*One day after receiving an indefinite suspension from the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with driving under the influence, according to The Washington Post.
Davis was arrested at 3:45 p.m. in Fairfax County, but details about his arrest have not been released.
This latest one-two punch for the former USC star is just the latest in a downward spiral that has included two previous violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He was suspended for the final four games of the 2011 season for reportedly failing a marijuana test.
Davis blamed the latest suspension on taking a supplement that contained a banned substance.
Washington was not expected to re-sign Davis, who is slated to become a free agent.
Jordan Reed emerged as Washington’s top tight end last season, and Davis was inactive several times. Add in Davis’ indefinite suspension and DUI arrest and the 28-year-old’s NFL career appears to be on thin ice.
