*John Singleton is lending his name to a new documentary that explores how black photographers have used images for social change throughout history.

“A Lens Darkly: Black Photographers And The Emergence Of A People” had its world premiere at Sundance last month, and now the Oscar-nominated filmmaker has come aboard as an executive producer, reports Deadline.com.

“I was moved by the film, these artists and what their work means to me and to the world at large, ” said Singleton, who earned an Academy Award nominations for Boyz N The Hood. “This documentary highlights the ongoing battle that black people face defining themselves image-wise.”

Thomas Allen Harris’ documentary had its Los Angeles premiere Friday at the Pan African Film Festival before making its international bow in the Panorama section at Berlin.
