*President Barack Obama released a statement Monday on the passing of fellow Chicagoan Harold Ramis, calling the late actor and director one of America’s “greatest satirists.”
Obama recalled watching Ramis’ iconic movies, including “Animal House,” “Groundhog Day” and “Ghostbusters.” He says the films didn’t just make him “laugh until it hurt” but also made him question authority and root for the underdog.
Ramis died Monday in his Chicago-area home at the age of 69. His death was caused by complications related to autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a condition Ramis battled for four years, according to United Talent Agency, which represented Ramis for many years.
In a nod to a frequently referenced line from Ramis’ classic film “Caddyshack,” Obama said his thoughts and prayers go out to those who hope Ramis “received total consciousness.”
