*Fans of Pharrell Williams will get new music from their favorite artist sooner than expected.
Williams will release “G I R L” the follow-up to his 2006 solo debut, “In My Mind,” on March 3.
The first single from the sophomore project will be the producer/writer’s hit single “Happy.” The tune, which is also featured on the “Despicable Me 2” soundtrack, recently secured an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. Williams will perform “Happy” during the Oscars on March 2.
Despite the amount of time since his last solo offering, Williams expressed confidence that “G I R L” will be worth the wait. The entertainer was anything but lazy following the release of “In My Mind” as he spent his time collaborating with artists such as Jay Z, Daft Punk, and Robin Thicke as well as writing songs for Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus.
“When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind,” the entertainer said in a release. “One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called G I R L. I hope you like it.”
