viola davis

*Yes! Another black female lead coming to TV screens.

Another potential series for Black Twitter to get behind?

Well, maybe — especially since Shonda Rhimes is bringing Viola Davis right along to star as the lead in a new ABC drama, “How to Get Away With Murder.”

The Academy-Award nominated actress will star in pilot about a criminal defense professor (Davis) who with her law students get entangled with a murder plot — hence, it’s a suspenseful, sexy and mysterious thriller.

Davis — known as a critically-acclaimed actress for her work in “Doubt” and “The Help” — will be the second popular black actress to lead her own ABC series produced by Rhimes.

Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope has garnered favorable reviews from critics and fans of the show — as the lead of “Scandal.”

Like “Scandal” — the show has an ensemble cast as well. The drama will co-star Aja Naomi KingMatt McGorry, Karla SouzaJack Falahee, Alfie Enoch and Charlie Weber.

Peter Nowalk will be writer and executive producer with Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

If a hit, it’ll become another series led by a black actress popular across demographics — something Rhimes is known for.
