12 years a slave book

*The 19th-century memoir by ex-slave Solomon Northup that birthed the Oscar winning film “12 Years a Slave” jumped from No. 326 on Amazon.com before Sunday night’s Academy Awards ceremony to No. 19 by Monday afternoon.

The book and the movie tell of how the free-born Solomon Northup was kidnapped and sold into slavery. After receiving his Oscar for writing the screenplay, John Ridley spoke backstage about renewed interest in the book based on its awards season buzz.    Listen below.
