*FX picked up a fourth season of “American Horror Story” back in November, and it was announced Friday that Angela Bassett and Gabourey Sidibe are among “Coven’s” returning cast members set for its next iteration, “American Horror Story: “Freak Show.”
“It’s not a circus, it’s not a carnival, it’s a freak show set in 1950, and it was a concept that Jessica Lange talked about as she wanted to play this type of character,” series co-creator Ryan Murphy said during the “American Horror Story” panel at the closing night of Paleyfest.
Lange, who has been with the series since its first season, will play a German-expatriate managing one of the last remaining freak shows in the country. Also returning are Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, Jamie Brewer and Evan Peters.
Paulson, Peters, Bassett, Conroy and Bates will play performers that Lange’s character has rescued, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Denis O’Hare and Emma Roberts are reportedly in talks to return for season four, which reboots itself every season with a completely new story and often features largely the same cast of repertory players.
Michael Chiklis will make his “AHS” debut playing the father of Peters’ character and the ex-husband of Kathy Bates’ character.
There’s no word yet on the new roles for Sidibe and Brewer.
“We’re shooting in New Orleans, but the series will be set in (Jupiter) Florida,” Murphy added.
