That’s what Chelsea Handler believes because she’s dated black men including 50 Cent. However, she made what some think were racially insensitive comments about “12 Years A Slave” and Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o.
Here’s the one she tweeted about Oscars sweetheart Lupita Nyong’o:
“#AngelinaJolie just filed adoption papers #lupitanyongo (hash)Oscars – @chelseahandler.”
Twitter users became furious with Handler and The Huffington Post for her tweets — deeming her racially insensitive.
In case you didn’t know, Handler was invited to take over The Huffington Post’s Twitter account during Sunday night’s Oscars and repeatedly touted her upcoming book, “Uganda Be Kidding Me,” whenever “12 Years A Slave” received an award.
But this is Handler’s way of clarifying that she wasn’t being racially insensitive… her tweet actually made sense racially … to her.
“She’s African,” Handler said in an interview with “Good Morning America” to unapologetically plead her case. “She’s Kenyan and she was talking about being African so yeah. The book is about Africa so yeah there is a connection.”
She continued with:
“People are always upset with me about something. I don’t take it personally,” she explained.
Handler said being racist would be hard to explain to her lovers.
“People are mad at me all the time. If I was worried about that then I would be spending a lot of time online. I’d rather be a little more productive,” she said. “I’m not racist. I date a lot of black people, so that would be a difficult thing to explain to them.”
