My Fox Atlanta reports the incident happened at the Velvet Room club, located in Chamblee Tucker Road in DeKalb County, during an album release party for Ross. DeKalb police noted that the shooting happened at around 3 a.m. after a dispute between the club DJ and another man in the back parking lot.
According to DeKalb Public Safety Director Cedric Alexander two off-duty officers working at the nightclub heard gunshots in the back of the club bout 4 a.m. When the officers responded to the rear of the club, “one subject turned toward them, firing shots,” Alexander told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “They returned fire, hitting the subject in the leg.”
The officers responding to the shooting were uninjured, said Alexander, who added that the wounded man, who was identified as a DJ at the club, got up and went back inside the club, where he was arrested before being transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Despite the presence of Ross and Diddy, reports claim the entertainers most likely had nothing to do with the shooting.
“They were doing what they were trained to do,” Alexander told the Journal-Constitution, adding that there was “no reason to believe” that any celebrities at the club for the album release party were involved in the shooting. “They took all the necessary actions to protect themselves and each other.”
As is standard procedure when an officer involved in a shooting, the officers from the album release party incident were placed on administrative duty. The name of the wounded DJ has not been released.
