*Although hate for the Duke Blue Devils is a natural thing for UNC Tarheel basketball fans, what about the rest of the sports world?
Enter former Duke standout Grant Hill, who weighed in on the topic during an interview with the Bleacher Report.
“Cause we had a lot of really good white players,” recently retired NBA star told Reese Waters. “The funny thing is, I played with Bobby Hurley and Christian Laettner. They were despised when we were on the road.
“If you look in the crowd, and it was nothing but white students at the games,” Hill continued. “It was white-on-white hate. I don’t understand that.”
Although Waters kinda laughed it off, Hill’s comments may carry some weight. As part of the Fab Five 30-for-30 documentary in 2011, ESPN analyst Jalen Rose labeled Hill as an “Uncle Tom” while saying Duke only recruited “certain types of players.”
Reminiscing over away games, Hill noted how basketball fans directed their hate towards other players instead of him.
“They wouldn’t get on me,” Hill said. “They got on Christian Laettner. They got on Bobby Hurley.”
