*If it’s Friday, it must be skit-day on MSNBC‘s “The Cycle.”
Ok, so what to do? What to do? Well, it looks like they decided to recycle a skit from a decade-old “Dave Chappelle Show.”
Yep, we’re talking about the classic “racial draft” that Chappelle and company came up with back in the day. On Friday, it came back to life with Toure’ as the host along with MSNBC personalities Krystal Ball and Joy Reid who drafted various celebrities into their respective races.
“Once you’re drafted by a certain race, that’s your group,” Toure’ explained. OK, so on with the show! Ball drafted Derek Jeter and Mariah Carey to the white team. Meanwhile Reid had an interesting strategy at play and took the Waltons (Walmart) and Koch (brothers) families as black. So while Ball said she just wanted to add some “cool people” to the white race, Reid was looking to tackle inequality by making the richest white people in America black.
In the next round, Ball selected Halle Berry and Drake for the white race and Reid smartly drafted Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to the black side. Yep, there’s a method to the madness. Right before our eyes, Reid shifted $300 billion from the white community to the black community.
Now, it wasn’t nearly as funny as the original from the Chappelle show, but it was fun, clever and revealing. And might we add, Joy Reid was looking real sexy without even trying.
