“Today we’re doing everything we can to bring that same sense of possibility to a new generation, because there are new frontiers to explore and we need Americans eager to explore them,” he said in the video message.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson leads the 13-episode series billed as a successor to the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning original, “Cosmos: A Personal Voyage,” that debuted in 1980 with host Carl Sagan.

Seth MacFarlane teamed with Sagan’s original creative collaborators to conceive the reboot, which premiered Sunday on Fox, plus 10 Fox Networks Group Channels and National Geographic Channel.

The White House screened the episode on Feb. 28 as part of its inaugural White House Film Festival.
