*With the “Murder, She Wrote” reboot no longer happening, Octavia Spencer has found herself another primetime paycheck.
The “Fruitvale Station” star will topline FOX’s “Red Band Society,” described as a dark dramedy that focuses on the daily lives of a group of teenagers living in a hospital who become unlikely friends. The depth of the unexpected friendships allows them to survive the challenges of growing up under such intense circumstances.
Spencer will play Nurse Jackson, who works in the pediatrics ward. She’s an excellent, intuitive nurse and a tough customer who doesn’t put up with any BS from anyone.
Dave Annable (“Brothers and Sisters”) has just signed on to play Dr. William McAndrew a rock star pediatric oncologist and surgeon. Compassionate and dedicated, McAndrew tries not to get too attached to his young patients but finds it hard not to.
Rounding out the cast are Griffin Gluck, Charlie Rowe, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Zoe Levin, Brian Bradley, Ciara Bravo and Nolan Sotillo.
“Boardwalk Empire’s” Margaret Nagle will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios/DreamWorks/Amblin Television entry alongside Steven Spielberg, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank and Sergio Aguero.
