*It may be over for CJ Harris and his southern-fried soul on “American Idol,” but the 23-year-old Jasper, Alabama native says his music career is just kicking into second gear.
“I’m gonna get to work immediately. I mean tonight,” he said after being voted off in Thursday’s live show. “I’m gonna go write, I’m gonna go wrap it up and do what I need to do. This is what I want to do.”
Harris was in the bottom two for most of the season despite a loyal following on Twitter and Facebook. Judges often praised the honesty and passion in his vocals, even if his notes struggled to find the right key at times.
Jennifer Lopez said she’s sad to see him go.
“I really felt like he was the heart of this season’s competition,” she said backstage. “You can tell by [the way] the other contestants were saying goodbye to him how they felt about him. I don’t think we’ve ever really seen that type of embrace that held on for that long. He’s a good guy.”
CJ says he’s already looking forward to the summer tour featuring the show’s Top 10 finalists.
“Me, Caleb, Alex, Sam and Dexter, we’ve already thought about some things we’re gonna do,” Harris teased of the trek, launching June 24 in Binghamton, NY.
Below, Harris has some parting words for his supporters.
